Air Force offers early outs and buyouts -- again

The Air Force's ongoing restructuring effort leads to another round of voluntary retirement and separation.

The Air Force is offering civilian employees a second round early outs and buyouts as part of its restructuring efforts, reports Federal Daily.

The Air Force has been restructuring in response to a broader Defense Department directive to stop the growth of civilian jobs above the fiscal 2010 levels. This round of voluntary early retirement authority and voluntary separation incentive pay offers begins Jan. 9. The Air Force also offered a first round last fall, followed by an announcement it was eliminating 9,000 positions, mostly in management, staff and support areas, and would add 5,900 positions in acquisition, the nuclear enterprise, and intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance.
