Federal 100: Seth R. Marcus
Seth R. Marcus
Branch Chief for Systems Support
Housing and Urban Development Department
The work: Modernizing and streamlining the process that housing and community grant recipients use to submit their five-year plans to the department.
The impact: HUD’s eGrants initiative has reduced annual paper consumption by 72,000 pages, eased the annual administrative burden by 98,000 hours and shortened the plan review process from 45 days to 12 days.
The nuts and bolts: In addition to simplifying the process for submitting plans, Marcus built a Web-based mapping program that supplies grant applicants with socioeconomic and housing market data, which makes it easier for them to target their grant activities for the most successful outcomes.
