Senator toughens up on DOD's money transfers
DOD warned to stop transferring funds without justification.
Sen. John McCain, (R-Ariz.), has warned defense officials he would no longer sign off on transferring money between portfolios unless he receives a detailed report on the need, according to a report in Federal Times.
McCain is the ranking member on the Armed Services Committee and is one of the senators who must approve such a request to reprogram money, according to the report.
The Defense Department transferred as much as $15 billion in fiscal 2011, and has transferred $850 million in seven requests so far in fiscal 2012.
