Correction: Doney not leaving DIA early

Dan Doney is staying on as chief innovation officer at the Defense Intelligence Agency through the end of his contract, which expires in February -- contrary to a previous report from FCW that Doney planned to step down. Reached by phone Nov. 24, Doney confirmed he is committed to helping the agency innovate and that he had never intended to resign.

FCW had reported on Nov. 20 that Doney intended to resign on Nov. 21, based on a former senior intelligence official claiming direct knowledge of Doney’s intentions.

The next day, a DIA spokesperson said that Doney was still on the job. FCW sought to immediately clarify the situation with DIA officials, the original source and Doney himself. No clarifications were forthcoming, and a DIA official told FCW late on Nov. 21 to leave the story as is until further details emerged.

In a Nov. 24 phone call with FCW, Doney would not say whether he met with DIA leadership on Nov. 21 to discuss his future. Spurring innovation at a big organization is naturally frustrating, he said, but that challenge has not and would not deter him.
