Chaffetz subpoenas OPM's Cobert

Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, filed a subpoena against acting Office of Personnel Management Director Beth Cobert for more documents related to the 2015 OPM breach.

Chaffetz's office announced the subpoena late on Feb. 3.

OPM, under Ms. Cobert's leadership, is not cooperating with the Committee's investigation," Chaffetz said in a statement. "The documents we've repeatedly requested...are essential [to preventing future breaches]. I'm disappointed Ms. Cobert is not working in good faith with the Committee."

"OPM has made every effort to work in good faith to respond to multiple congressional oversight requests, including document productions," said OPM spokesperson Sam Schumach in response to Chaffetz' announcement.

Schumach said OPM has produced tens of thousands of documents, conducted 13 classified and unclassified briefings and taxed its workforce as it attempts to keep up with congressional demands for information.

Cobert, who was tapped to lead OPM after Katherine Archuleta resigned in the post-breach firestorm, is scheduled to appear before the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee on Feb. 4 for her confirmation hearing.
