New CEO takes over at MITRE

Dr. Jason Providakes assumed his new role as president and CEO of the MITRE Corporation March 6.

MITRE is a not-for-profit, government-sponsored organization that operates federally funded research and development centers. Providakes has been with MITRE since 1991, and has overseen federal civilian strategy and customer engagement programs sponsored by the Departments of Defense, Health and Human Services, Homeland Security, Treasury and Veterans Affairs. He also has overseen programs sponsored by the Administrative Office of the U.S. Courts.

Providakes has served as directors of the Homeland Security Systems Engineering and Development Institute and of the National Security Engineering Center’s Joint and Defense-Wide Systems Division.

Most recently, he served as senior vice president and general manager of MITRE's Center for Connected Government, a position that will be taken over by former Department of Veterans Affairs CIO LaVerne Council, who starts at MITRE April 3.

Providakes succeeds Alfred Grasso, who will remain a member of MITRE’s Board of Trustees.
