PSC's Wennergren headed to Deloitte

David Wennergren, the longtime Department of Defense and Navy executive who in recent years has helped lead the Professional Service Council, is leaving PSC to become a managing director at Deloitte Consulting.

According to Washington Technology, which first reported the news, Wennergren's focus at Deloitte will be on IT modernization. His last day at PSC is June 30 and his first at Deloitte is July 5.

“It has been a fabulous ride here at PSC,” Wennergren told Washington Technology. “But this is an opportunity for a whole new adventure.” He added that the opportunity to work directly with government customers was a key part of the new job's appeal.

“I think we are at an inflection point with IT modernization,” he said.

“The government is living with antiquated IT systems that can’t rapidly take advantage of the cloud and mobile and cybersecurity advances. ... So what do you do about it? You need a plan.”

Wennergren, who writes regularly for FCW and won the 2007 government Eagle Award, retired from government service in 2013 as the Defense Department's assistant deputy management officer and joined CACI International. In 2014, he moved to PSC to manage their technology policy group, and in February, he added the chief operating officer title to his job description.

He said he was drawn to Deloitte because of the growth the business has been experiencing but also because of their success in joining technology to their legacy as a consulting firm.

Wennergren adds to a long list of well-known names that have joined the Deloitte team. The firm hired former Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.) and Tim Young, the former deputy administrator of the Office of Management and Budget's Office of E-government and IT as the Bush administration wound down. More recently, former OMB Controller Dave Mader, former ASI Government CEO Kymm McCabe, former Agriculture Department Chief Financial Officer Jon Holladay, former DOD Deputy Chief Management Officer Beth McGrath and Motiv Strategies CEO Jeneanne Rae, among others, also have joined the firm.
