Critical Update: Government Contracting Trends for 2019

Every new fiscal year brings new opportunities, but contractors can expect to see an emphasis on speed in 2019, even though right now they’re experiencing complications during the partial government shutdown
Deltek’s Director of Federal Market Analysis Deniece Peterson and Senior Manager of Research Ashley Sanderson said to expect growing momentum in category management, the consolidation of schedules by the General Services Administration and increased spending by agencies through OTAs, or other transaction authorities.
They also highlighted important contracts, like the $10 billion Joint Enterprise Defense Infrastructure contract soon to be awarded by the Pentagon, which could significantly affect where the government turns for large-scale IT services in the future.
No matter when the shutdown ends, it will have long-term effects on contractors, they warned, including the possibility of having to staff back up after layoffs. And agencies, once they reopen, may find their spending slides to later in the year—potentially exacerbating a growing trend.
