$450M deal boosts air traffic control

The Federal Aviation Administration on Aug. 17 awarded a 10-year, $450 million

contract to BAE Systems Applied Technologies Inc. to support the FAA's efforts

to modernize the air traffic control and management systems.

Under the System Engineering and Technical Assistance II contract, a

follow-on to BAE's current work for FAA, the company will provide systems

engineering and technical assistance for the FAA's Office of Research and

Acquisitions and other FAA business lines, according to an FAA statement.

BAE will provide professional, technical, administrative and management

services, as well as computer equipment, office equipment, data and facilities

to the organizations that are maintaining and modernizing the National Airspace

System (NAS) architecture and executing the Capital Investment Plan, the

FAA said.

Areas of support include:

* NAS architecture and system engineering.

* NAS configuration management.

* NAS planning and scheduling, cost and financial management.

* Investment analysis and operations research.

* Acquisition policy and guidance.

* Information systems engineering improvement policy and processes.

* Program management system tools information systems engineering.
