McNulty named to advisory board

The National Institute of Standards and Technology has approved the appointment of Lynn McNulty to the Information Security and Privacy Advisory Board, a congressionally chartered group that advises federal officials on information security and privacy issues.

McNulty, who is director of government affairs at the International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium, will fill a long-standing vacancy on the 13-member advisory board. The group meets quarterly in open sessions to advise NIST officials, the Commerce Department secretary and the Office of Management and Budget director on proposed technical standards and guidelines and other issues related to federal information security and privacy.

At recent meetings, the board has discussed the roles and responsibilities of federal chief privacy officers and whether a new legal and policy framework for privacy is needed. The board’s next three-day meeting begins March 21.

McNulty formerly served as associate director of computer security at NIST and as the State Department’s first director of information systems security.
