ITS, SEA become Apogen

The firms once called ITS Services Inc. and Science and Engineering Associates Inc. have re-emerged with a new name and renewed focus on government.

ITS Services Inc. and Science and Engineering Associates Inc., two technology firms that merged in January, have re-emerged under a new name and with a renewed focus on the government market.

Apogen Technologies specializes in enterprise architecture, software development and integration, and building and running networks, said Todd Stottlemyer, chief executive officer.

The name is a combination of apogee, which means the highest point of an arc, and genesis, for innovation and creation, he said.

Since the merger was announced, company officials have been working to bridge the two cultures and get the 950 employees to view the new company as a single entity. The task is more challenging because there are two main offices, one in New Orleans and one in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C., along with smaller offices nationwide, Stottlemyer said.

"You want your employees to be the brand, so there's a significant internal branding process," he said. The company published a weekly newsletter and held focus group meetings to keep employees informed, he said.

The new company is at a good size, he added. "We believe we're large enough to compete on anything, but there's still that personal touch."

Robert Savoie, the former CEO of SEAS, is vice chairman of the new company.
