Online traffic school sign-ups in Kentucky

Just months after launching the service, Kentucky officials have already exceeded their goal for online enrollments for traffic school.

Officials from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet's Division of Driver Licensing, who estimate that the state averages more than 100,000 traffic school students a year, launched the new program in February. They were aiming to have 30 percent of traffic school attendees enrolling online by the end of the year. Citizens must enroll in traffic school when ordered to by a Kentucky court for a minor traffic violation, such as speeding or running stoplights.

In May, 33 percent of the individuals who had to enroll — or 2,236 people — did so using the online service, according to officials. The service includes the ability to pay for the classes online using a credit card.

The enrollment is one of the few online services offered by the Transportation Cabinet. Others including paying commercial trucking taxes online and requesting a copy of the three-year driver history record on anyone with a Kentucky license.
