Newstrom boards IMC

George Newstrom, who quit his post as Virginia's secretary of technology at the beginning of this month, is renewing ties with software developer IMC Inc. by taking a seat on its board.

Newstrom, former president of EDS Asia-Pacific, was previously an IMC board member but had to resign because of conflicts of interest when he took the Virginia job in 2002.

He is currently chairman of the World Information Technology and Services Alliance, which hosted the World Congress on Information Technology in Virginia's Fairfax County in 1998.

IMC got another boost when chief executive officer and founder Sudhakar Shenoy was named Small Contractor Executive of the Year by the Second Annual Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards, which is sponsored by the Northern Virginia Government Contractors Council.

"I was always impressed while I was in government how Sudharkar was eager to work with the government to improve our procurement system so it became focused on delivering better value to agency missions and taxpayers," said Steve Kelman, professor of public management at Harvard University and a member of the awards selection committee. The award is given in recognition of a person's contribution to the company, the community and the government contracting industry.
