Kentucky has awarded EDS a five-year, $170 million contract to modernize the state’s Medicaid Management Information System (MMIS).

EDS, which once managed the state’s Medicaid services more than 10 years ago, will provide a number of services, including system development and maintenance, financial services, real-time claims adjudication, decision support/data warehouse, call center services, mail room, data entry and provider training.

Under the new system, which will be based on the company’s interChange Health System deployed in several other states, Medicaid providers will be able to submit claims through various electronic formats, including via the Internet, and claims will be processed more accurately and timely.

The contract, which was signed in March, includes two one-year options and a 19-month implementation period. It will serve more than 691,000 members and 35,000 health care providers. EDS now provides MMIS services to 19 states.
