Thank you, public servants

In case you didn't know, the first week in May, this week, is Public Service Recognition Week. As in past years, federal employees from many government agencies are setting up displays on the Mall in Washington, D.C. Other major cities with federal and state employees mount other activities to honor public servants.

At the Mall display, members of the Armed services will demonstrate a virtual Army experience. A few years ago, I got a real experience, climbing into a tank that the Army brought to the Mall. Those from the border patrol and other units will bring some detection dogs. It's a great show of the many jobs that government workers do.

Although little has been said this week so far about Public Service Recognition Week, the hoopla will begin on Thursday when the Mall displays open for three days.

I can't miss saying thank you to all of you working in government and the military for the incredible service you do, in so many ways, for all of us.

If any of you are participating in this week's events, please tell us what you or your agency will be showing the public. The rest of you might consider going to the Mall to see this fun event with your family.
