FCW Insider: The Freeland note

We told you yesterday that David Freeland, the CIO at the Patent and Trademark Office, is leaving... and we asked you to send along the note he sent out earlier this week. Just to make it even a bit more official, here is the note:

Dear Colleagues:

I wanted to take a moment to let you know that, in a few weeks, I am leaving the USPTO.

I have enjoyed my tenure here.  I appreciate having had the opportunity to work with you. In particular, I want to thank our Under Secretary, Jon Dudas, for his vision and leadership.  With his support – and that of the other USPTO business units – we in OCIO have been able to achieve tremendous goals, including EFS-Web implementation, supporting record numbers of new USPTO examiners including teleworkers and hotelers, and helping the USPTO process historic numbers of patent and trademark applications.

I leave knowing that the OCIO is in good hands.  The OCIO management team is strong and moving in the right direction.  Continuity will be preserved with Deborah Diaz serving as the Acting CIO while a nationwide search is conducted for the next CIO.

Even though I will miss my colleagues and the USPTO, I am looking forward to new challenges and spending more time with my family.  Best wishes to each of you in your endeavors here at the USPTO.
