Also in the News: Navy delivers more Internet bandwidth to small ships in trial

The Navy has been performing a high-speed satellite networking trial that gives smaller ships up to 10 times more satellite bandwidth than previously available, according to a report on Defense Systems's blog.

The Commercial Satellite Broadband Program, currently being tested aboard the mine countermeasures ship USS Champion, is part of SPAWAR's plan to upgrade and consolidate its satellite communications with ships at sea. CSBP relies on leased commercial satellite capacity and will soon be deployed aboard additional small ships such as mine countermeasures ships and frigates.
