IT Jobs Still Pay Premium

Starting salaries for computer science and computer engineering graduates have taken a bit of a hit this year but still remain significantly higher than starting salaries for other professions, InformationWeek <a href="http://www.informationweek.com/blog/main/archives/2010/07/pay_for_compute.html;jsessionid=2HUUYIN513ZSBQE1GHPSKH4ATMY32JVN?cid=RSSfeed_IWK_ALL+">reports</a>.

Starting salaries for computer science and computer engineering graduates have taken a bit of a hit this year but still remain significantly higher than starting salaries for other professions, InformationWeek reports.

According to the latest quarterly report from the National Association for Colleges and Employers, average pay for computer science graduates is down 0.5 percent, but it still stands at a strong $61,112. Computer engineering graduates' starting pay is down 2.9 percent to $59,917, while information science graduates saw a 5.7 percent jump from a year ago, to $55,084 on average. Those numbers are significantly higher than the overall average starting salary for all 2010 college graduates, which is $48,661, down 1.3 percent from one year ago.
