From Wall Street to Fed Street
Possibly some good news for agencies looking for IT talent -- but then again maybe not.
The financial industry's woes may end up pushing more college students into the computer science field, reports CIO.com. For the past few years, some students interested in technology instead chose a career in the financial industry because they could earn more money. But now with fewer Wall Street jobs, those students just may pursue computer science degrees, according to the article. But a big caution here: If money is a key factor in where these newly minted techies will work, the federal government still will have a hard time attracting the new graduates away from the private sector. Besides, these new students are four years away from graduating, during which the federal government will lose thousands of IT workers to retirement.
