Transportation's FTS 2001 strategy may dampen competition for $2 billion project
The Federal Aviation Administration's current operational network consists
of:
* Government owned and operated switching and multiplexing equipment — the Data Multiplexing Network, Bandwidth Manager and the National Airspace
Data Interchange Network Packet Switched Network.
* Leased transmission circuits provided by the Leased Inter- facility
National Airspace System Communications System (LINCS), the FAA Telecommunications
Satellite System and the Alaskan National Airspace System Interfacility
Communications System.
* Government owned and operated microwave transmission assets provided
by the Radio Communications Link and Low Density Radio Communications Link.
The current mission support network is characterized by:
* Agency Data Telecommunications Network, which is provided by several
contracts, one for the nodal service and two for the transmission service — FTS 2000 and LINCS.
* Switched voice and data services.
* Dedicated Transmission Services.
