CIO performing emergency duty
FEMA's chief information officer has been named acting chief of staff during the Bush administration transition
G. Clay Hollister, chief information officer of the Federal Emergency Management Agency, has been named FEMA's acting chief of staff during the transition to the Bush administration.
Hollister, who is also executive associate director of FEMA's Information Technology Services Directorate, will not perform CIO duties while serving as acting chief of staff.
A staff member said Hollister expects to resume his old job after new FEMA leadership is in place. As CIO, Hollister is not a political appointee.
James Witt, FEMA director under President Clinton, appointed Hollister to the acting chief of staff position before President Bush's inauguration Jan. 20.
Dennis DeWalt, who served under Hollister as deputy associate director of ITSD, is now ITSD's acting director and is performing CIO functions.
Witt also appointed John Magaw, senior adviser to the director for terrorism preparedness, as acting FEMA director while the Senate confirms Joseph Allbaugh, Bush's choice to head the agency.
