OPM’s Fitzgerald will leave government next month

Mike Fitzgerald, the Office of Personnel Management’s E-Training project manager, is heading to an industry job. Fitzgerald, whose last day at OPM is Jan. 2, will become a senior business analyst for Titan Corp. of Reston, Va., where he will focus on helping agencies adhere to the Federal Enterprise Architecture and developing business cases.He is a 14-year veteran of federal service. He has spent the last four years at OPM and before that worked at the Bureau of Federal Prisons.“OPM gave me a fantastic opportunity to expand my personal and professional goals, and this is just another step to go out and get some industry experience,” Fitzgerald said.Jeff Pon, the agency’s deputy director for e-government, will take over on an interim basis and manage the E-Learning project, one of the 25 Quicksilver e-government projects.Through E-Training, OPM is creating a single portal for online learning across government. The project is in the final stages, Fitzgerald said. “All the heavy lifting is done,” he said. “I’m really proud of the OPM team, our agency and commercial partners because we migrated close to 40 agencies to a common platform.”The portal has 176,000 registered users, and federal employees have completed 134,000 courses since the site’s launch in July 2002.
