Letter: Research, not laws, needed for fake degrees

It's already an offense to lie on government job applications, and proposing additional laws won't make a real difference.

In regard to “Fake degrees help terrorists skirt immigration, lawmakers say,” I'm not clear on why there needs to be additional laws on degree mills. It is already an offense to lie on government job applications. Most reputable universities are accredited by an outside agency. If a degree is from a non-accredited university that should be a flag to do some due diligence to see if the degree claimed is legitimate. It looks like Congress is again substituting the appearance of progress for real progress.
