Equal Employment Opportunity Commission names new CIO

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission named Kimberly Hancher as its new chief information officer earlier this month. Hancher’s first day will be March 17. She will head the Office of Information Technology and be responsible for managing the commission’s day-to-day technology needs and strategic planning. The commission issued its four-year IT strategic plan in 2004 and likely will have to update it this year. Under the current plan, the commission’s IT goals include continuing to implement its enterprise architecture, managing and reducing the number of systems that take data in, and by 2009, converting key documents containing 95 percent of its private-sector charge, federal-sector complaint and litigation case files to electronic format. Hancher is deputy CIO at the Federal Communications Commission and has been at the agency since March 1998. She has been in the IT community for more than 25 years, beginning her career at the Veterans Affairs Department, where she provided technical support for mainframes, minicomputers and local-area networks supporting more than 10,000 users. She has also managed software development projects, hardware and software deployments, and interagency data exchange projects.
