Get a Life!: Skills in demand
Even if a job change is not on your radar, it’s always a good idea to keep a finger on the hiring pulse. The economy may be slowing down, but highly skilled technical professionals are still in demand and companies are hiring, according to a survey by the job matching Web site Jobfox.
Among the Top 10 professions most actively being recruited are software design/development, accounting/finance, administrative assistant, networking/system administration, intelligence, and technical customer support.
The survey reflects the professions targeted most often by employers and recruiters that used Jobfox during the past 120 days to find new workers. The complete list of rankings is available at Jobfox along with the median salary ranges sought by candidates.
The climate for hiring also remains steady, with 62 percent of corporate recruiters surveyed planning to maintain or increase staff levels at their organizations during 2008.
If you are thinking of going on a job search, keep in mind the truism that the best time to find a job is when you don’t have to look. When you have a job and things are going well, it doesn’t hurt to take a little time to redo a resume. Surprising things can happen.
For those who may already have a foot out of the door, another piece of advice is always to leave in good standing. Have a good word for those you leave behind even if they weren’t your best supporters in the office. As my mother used to say, you never know whom you’ll meet coming around the corner. I’ll be looking at some job-search tips for future blogs.
