Letter: Fees could deter random trades
A reader says Thrift Savings Plan members should pay for exceeding a certain amount of trades, which might make them realize the cost of following the markets’ fluctuations.
Regarding “Some participants protest new Thrift Savings Plan policy”: If individuals want to make more than the allowed number of transactions per month, they should have the capability of doing so. However, if the number of transactions is more than the program allows, those individuals should be charged a fee for making them.
When they see just how much it costs them to make these additional transactions, more than likely it will deter them from making random transactions because of the markets’ ups and downs on a daily basis.
