FCW Insider: GSA administrator, part five

The buzz around a potential new GSA administrator continues. (See previous posts... ... ... ... ...)It has been a very busy Thursday for events. I missed the gathering this morning, but I did make it to the -- Lt. Gen. Charlie Croom, the head of DISA, who was given AFFIRM's big award, gave a really outstanding speech. More on that later -- And I'm about to head out to . And I'm getting ready for some vacation next week, so... it is a busy day.That being said, at the annual today, there were a number of GSA people there. I was joking with them that I was going to list all of the people who have been suggested as the new acting administrator. Although it might be easier to name the people who have not been named. That list might be shorter. But we're continuing to chase it down.Here is the update.An announcement could come at any time now. There are some reports that the recommendation is sitting on the president's desk. Some people expected an announcement earlier this week. Most expect word to come early next week. (Of course -- when I'm no vacation!)I mentioned that one of the names being discussed is "a former GSA political appointee who is now at USDA." Well, we believe it is Boyd Rutherford. (His isn't coming up for me right now, but Google has .) Rutherford ran the small business office at GSA in President Bush's first term. Here is the official way of saying it, from Rutherford's bio:Most recently, Rutherford worked for the GSA equivalent in Maryland. Again, from his bio: But... the name I keep hearing is , GSA's Federal Acquisition Service. Williams is a class act and would be ready on day one -- no Hillary connection implied or inferred. He's just aconsummate pro and one of government's best and brightest. We could hear something soon. As always, tips are welcome... and always kept anonymous.... .
