Letter: Best price not on GSA Schedule
A reader says a more simple way than using the GSA Schedule to make purchases would be best for all parties involved.
[Regarding GSA Schedules:] I use it because I am required to use it by some agencies like Comptroller of Currency. It is not the best value and many times when items are not on GSA schedule because of foreign-made companies say they are bidding GSA because Comptroller of Currency requires it to be and we have bid in the past on items that were not GSA and lost even though we were $1000 less. If we bid the GSA price we would always lose. We always must go below the GSA schedule to win. The schedule does not give us the best price.
To me the GSA schedule is like a credit card purchase. It is another couple percent we have to pay out and work to maintain. It would be nice to get back to KISS method of working - keep it simple (save) for both sides.
