A study from Forrester Research concludes that the project management metrics can do more harm than good, according to CIO magazine.
Forrester found that metrics, commonly used to keep tabs on the progress of projects, "perpetuate the idea that a project is only successful when it is completed according to the initial schedule, budget and requirements—and therefore, that anything less is a failure," CIO reports.
The problem is that project requirements "change for a variety of reasons" during the course of a project, which is not always reflected in metrics, Forrester analysts said.
